The traditional French archbishopric of Strasbourg is getting a new leader.
Pope Francis has appointed Pascal Delannoy as Archbishop, as announced by the Vatican press office on Wednesday.
The 66-year-old was previously Bishop of Saint-Denis.
Delannoy comes from northern France. He was ordained a priest in 1989 and became an auxiliary bishop in Lille in 2004. In March 2009, the Pope appointed him bishop of the diocese of Saint-Denis near Paris.
At the end of May 2023, Francis accepted the resignation of the then Archbishop of Strasbourg Luc Ravel (66).
Prior to this, there had been months of controversy surrounding Ravel's leadership, which led to a Vatican review in June 2022.
The Pope appointed the Bishop of Metz, Archbishop Philippe Ballot (67), as interim administrator.
